About Aut 2 Bee…and me!
My first experience helping children was as a paraprofessional in a small classroom for children diagnosed with Autism many years ago. I didn’t even know what Autism was or how to help anyone who was diagnosed with it. It was an eye-opening experience to say the least and an experience that I absolutely LOVED! The children and families I worked with, were so kind and unique in their own way. But I have to say, that although I loved helping and assisting the children however I could, I felt inadequate and not skilled enough and wondered how I could ever help them because of how little I knew at the time. To say the least, this classroom experience and the wonderful children and families I met was life changing for me. It was the doorway onto a path that has shaped what I am doing today and the person I have become.
Fast forward 20 years, I have had an interesting experience with Autism throughout these years both on a professional and personal level. I have a niece and nephew diagnosed with Autism and the challenges and difficulties of what I have witnessed my siblings go through has not been easy. For many years, I have witnessed the struggles they and other parent’s face about the understanding of what an Autism diagnosis is, getting enough services, finding qualified providers, how to “follow-through” when teacher’s go home for the day, balancing out their own time to work and make a living, balancing their time and care for their other children and lastly, take time to care for themselves. I have witnessed the ups and downs, the sadness’s, joys, excitements, commitments and anxieties parents have gone through and continue to go through as each day goes on. As a teacher, I always try and do the best that I can when teaching both children and their parents. However, when teaching 1:1 together had to end, I always felt like there was so much more that could have been worked on if I had more time to teach. Parents would always say to me, “ I wish we had more time together so you could help teach my child and I learn to …..”.
That’s exactly why Aut 2 Bee Learning, LLC was created. I created this because I want this site to function as a resource that will help parents fill in what else can be taught based upon questions and issues that arise daily that parents have wanted to learn more about. It will post different content in the form of monthly blog posts, provide informative resources to learn from and give you free downloadable“giveaway’s” created by me to use over and over again as well as so much more I have planned to come.
What if I asked you to take a small leap with me and challenge yourself? What if I told you that sometimes going out of your comfort zone and taking on difficult challenges can make a difference in your confidence and your perspective on things you once thought impossible or too hard? You might be saying to yourself “I’m not a teacher, how can I do that?” Well let me tell you, I have met MANY parents that were able to do what I could do, if not better because they knew their child the best.
